Two complete kits: IV or subQ
Choose the kit that matches how the fluid will be given.
- Complete IV Fluid Kit: for intravenous fluids given into a vein. A Baxter saline bag, tubing, BD catheters, flush and start kit, 12 pieces in one box.
- Complete SubQ Fluid Kit: for subcutaneous (sub-Q) fluids given under the skin, the method most veterinarians use for pets at home. A Baxter saline or Lactated Ringer's bag, tubing, safety needles and prep pads.
What's in our IV fluid kit (12 pieces)
- 0.9% normal saline bag, 500 or 1000 mL (Baxter)
- IV administration set (tubing) (Baxter)
- 20 GA and 22 GA shielded IV catheters (BD)
- 10 mL saline flush syringe (BD)
- IV start kit with extension tubing, tourniquet, prep applicator, gauze, dressing, tape and label (Cardinal Health)
Both IV kit sizes include the same 12 pieces; only the bag size differs.
What's in our subQ fluid kit
- Normal saline bag, 500 or 1000 mL, or Lactated Ringer's bag, 1000 mL (Baxter)
- IV administration set (tubing) (Baxter)
- Monoject Magellan safety needles, 18, 20 or 22 GA: 5 with the 500 mL kit, 10 with the 1000 mL kits (Cardinal Health)
- Alcohol prep pads, one per needle (Cardinal Health)
You get one fresh needle for every session in the bag. Every item in both kits is sterile, individually sealed, and dated 2027 or later.
Why buy a kit instead of separate supplies
Giving fluids takes more than a bag. Buying each piece separately means sourcing tubing, catheters or needles, and site supplies from different places, often in box quantities. Our kits put everything in a single order, so nothing is missing when you set up. Already have some supplies? Shop IV fluids or IV supplies on their own. Restocking for your next subQ bag? The SubQ Refill Pack has new tubing, 10 safety needles and 10 prep pads.
500 mL or 1000 mL?
The 1000 mL (1 liter) bag is the standard choice for both IV hydration and sub-Q fluids. For pets, one 1000 mL bag usually covers 7 to 10 sessions at 100 to 150 mL each. The 500 mL size suits smaller volumes or when you want a lighter bag. If you are following a care plan, choose the volume it specifies.
Which catheter or needle size?
IV kit: each kit includes two shielded BD catheters so you have a backup and a choice of size. The 20 GA catheter is a common size for hydration fluids. The 22 GA catheter is smaller and is often chosen for smaller or more fragile veins.
SubQ kit: 18 GA gives the fastest flow and suits dogs and larger cats. 20 GA is the most popular, balancing speed and comfort. 22 GA is finer for small or sensitive pets, with a slower flow. If your veterinarian recommended a gauge, choose that one.

Setting up your kit
Our guide to how to set up an IV bag at home walks through spiking the bag, priming the tubing and setting the drip rate. For pets, see our guides to subcutaneous fluids for cats at home and Lactated Ringer's for dogs and cats. Starting an IV requires proper training. If you have not been trained, have a qualified healthcare professional place the line.
Fluid kit FAQ
Do I need a prescription to buy a fluid kit?
No. You do not need a prescription or license to order IV or subQ kits from us.
What's the difference between the IV kit and the subQ kit?
The IV kit is for fluids given into a vein through a catheter. The subQ kit is for fluids given under the skin through a needle, which is how most pets receive fluids at home.
What do I need for my next bag of subQ fluids?
A new bag of Lactated Ringer's or normal saline plus a SubQ Refill Pack, which includes new tubing, 10 safety needles and 10 prep pads. Or order another complete SubQ Fluid Kit.
Can I get a kit with Lactated Ringer's instead of saline?
Yes. The SubQ Fluid Kit comes with your choice of normal saline or Lactated Ringer's. The IV Fluid Kit comes with normal saline; to run Lactated Ringer's through an IV, order a Lactated Ringer's bag along with the supplies you need from IV supplies.
Are the kit components genuine name-brand products?
Yes. Fluids and tubing are Baxter, catheters and flushes are BD, and the start kit, needles and prep pads are Cardinal Health.
How long do the kits last?
Every item is dated 2027 or later. Store kits at room temperature, away from heat and direct sunlight.
Do you offer bulk pricing on kits?
Yes. Mobile IV businesses, clinics, rescues and practices can request case pricing.
Use IV supplies only with proper training. If you are unsure, consult a healthcare professional.
